Battery for Citizen Eco-Drive – how to choose the right model?

The Citizen Eco-Drive system uses light energy to charge the cell located in the watch. It is not a regular watch battery that is periodically replaced after it is discharged.

Does Citizen Eco-Drive have a battery?

Eco-Drive watches use a special rechargeable cell, often referred to as a watch battery. The energy obtained from light is stored in this cell.

Citizen recommends using only the cell intended for a specific mechanism. A regular silver battery is not a proper replacement for the battery used in Eco-Drive.

How to choose the right Citizen Eco-Drive battery?

The most reliable method is to determine the caliber designation of the mechanism. Based on this, you can check what type of cell has been specified by the manufacturer.

The mechanism designation can be found, among other places, on the back of the watch or directly on the mechanism after opening the case.

Why is the battery dimension alone not enough?

Two cells may have similar sizes but differ in parameters, mounting methods, or elements used to connect to the mechanism. Therefore, the battery should be selected according to the mechanism designation or the symbol of the original cell.

Popular battery designations for watches

In solar watches, you can find designations such as CTL1616F, CTL621F, MT920, or TS920. However, this does not mean they can be used interchangeably. Each mechanism should be checked individually.

Can a regular battery be put in Citizen Eco-Drive?

This should not be done. The manufacturer specifies the use of the appropriate rechargeable cell. Installing the wrong type of battery may cause improper operation of the watch, and charging a cell not intended for this purpose can be dangerous.

The Eco-Drive watch is not working – is the battery damaged?

Not necessarily. The watch stopping may also result from the cell being completely discharged. First, it is worth charging the watch according to the instructions for that model. If, despite proper charging, the working time is very short, diagnostics of the mechanism or cell may be necessary.

How to order the right battery?

Before purchasing, it is best to check the symbol of the old battery or the designation of the Citizen mechanism. This helps avoid choosing a cell that has similar dimensions but is not intended for that watch.
