After each service and cleaning, the mechanical movement must be demagnetized in either assembled or disassembled state.
Especially the balance spring, mainly in older movements, may have become magnetized over time.
No harmonic oscillations of the spring are possible then: the watch does not work accurately.
The tool can also be a "source of danger" and transfer magnetism, so it should be demagnetized before use with watch mechanisms. Elma Antimag demagnetizes complete watches, disassembled parts of the mechanism, case, and tools in milliseconds by pressing a button.
Small parts should be placed on the field in a sealed plastic bag.
